With over 25 years of service, Youth Organizations United to Rise has served over 1,000 families and over 5,000 students.
Youth Organizations United to Rise has grown to offer eight programs for elementary school, middle school, and high school students. Our programs provide enriching experiences for students that supplement their daily education.
We are committed to promoting safety and creating positive learning environments that emphasize high expectations for student conduct, responsible behavior, and respect for others.
Youth Organization United to Rise’s mission is to provide every family in Washington, DC access to both the resources and activities necessary to ensure every child has a safe environment to learn in their community and to explore the world beyond the classroom.
Our vision is to provide all students in Washington, DC with opportunities for personal enrichment and growth with a focus on developing the whole student – socially, emotionally, and academically.
Our founder, Joyce Madyun, began providing out of school time programs for children in her basement in 1988. Her programs became so popular that in July 1991 she was asked to provide the same programs at her neighborhood elementary school.
By 1997, the program and her vision had outgrown the school. Mrs. Madyun and her husband used equity from their home to purchase a derelict property on the corner of 14th and Farragut Street NW. With the help of the entire community the property was renovated and she opened her doors with three programs for elementary school and middle school students. The name Youth Organizations United to Rise (YOUR) Community Center was rightfully chosen as the name for the organization, now a treasured asset of the community.
